Wreck Location
Creating an artificial reef by having a significant vessel scuttled off the Sydney coastline will provide valuable diving opportunities to SCUBA divers in the Metro Sydney region.

A burning question everyone asks us:
Where will the ship be sunk?
We have identified a possible site approximately 4km SSE off Coogee (east of Wedding Cake Island). The initial survey and research on the site indicate it is suitable and meets all the required criteria. But, naturally, it is still the subject of a comprehensive EIS.
Very little scuba diving activity occurs at this proposed location because of the sandy bottom. However, a sandy bottom is perfect site to sink a dive wreck. Additionally, the site is adjacent to excellent diving at Wedding Cake Island, the Magic Point Grey Nurse Sanctuary, and Shark Point Clovelly NSW.
A dive wreck would only enhance the diving in the immediate vicinity. Currently the Sydney coastline does not have a dive wreck and this proposal is seen as a companion to the dive wreck, the ex HMAS Adelaide (1V) sunk off Avoca Beach NSW in 2011.
This is one identified site – it is not necessarily the final destination.
