Creating an artificial reef by having a significant vessel scuttled off the Sydney coastline will provide valuable diving opportunities to SCUBA divers in the Metro Sydney region.
Petition Tabled! Over-whelminging Community and Parliamentary Support:
The proposal enjoys robust support within our community, evidenced by the
14,201-signature petition tabled in the NSW Parliament, on the 12th October 2023
including 4,125 from Randwick City residents by Dr Marjorie O'Neill MP for
Coogee who concluded that the answer to the proposal in Parliament is.
not a no, it is just a not yet
Dr O'Neill further pointed out in Parliament that,
The proposal has considerable community support because it combines local
tourism with ecological rehabilitation and environmental sustainability and that is a
value that the Labor government wholeheartedly supports. At a local level this value
is reflected in the fact that one of the first election commitments we are delivering is
to address the Coogee storm water issue
